Host Family

A warm welcome into French family life

The ideal way to discover French culture and its people is to live with a local family. We therefore recommend a stay with one of our carefully selected host families, which allows you to experience total immersion in French language and culture.

The Institut Européen de Français knows all the host families personally and has inspected their homes carefully. All families are obliged to sign a contract in order to guarantee the highest quality.

The school places great importance on the friendliness of its host families and their interest in a cultural exchange. Not only will you be able to practise your French outside tuition hours, but you will also gain an interesting insight into the French way of life.

Rooms: Single room (twin rooms are available for students travelling together). All rooms are properly equipped with a proper bed, adequate storage space, lighting, chair and desk etc.

Meal plan: half board (breakfast and dinner).

Location of families: Nearly all families live a maximum of 30 minutes away from the Institute by foot or public transport. There might be one or several other students staying in the family.

Transfers: You will be picked up at Montpellier train station or airport. You must let us or your host family know the time of your arrival as well as flight number or train number no later than 1 week before your arrival.

On arrival: Arrival on Sunday from noon. Your host family will show you your room as well as the common parts of the accommodation. You will be given a key to the home and your hosts will explain the house rules.

After you register with us, we will ask you to fill in a questionnaire to know more about your habits and interests. This information will help the Institut Européen de Français choose the best matching family for you. The school guarantees to fulfil all your special requests, such as a vegetarian diet, special nutrition requirements (food allergies), pet allergies, etc.; as well as guaranteeing non-smoking families. They will also make all efforts to fulfil your wishes like families with or without children, central location, family of a certain age or any other requests you might have. Additionally, the Institut Européen de Français also takes into account your age and hobbies.

Prior to Arrival

2-3 weeks prior to arrival we will provide you with detailed information about your host family. All address and contact details will be given as well as information on all family members, their professions and hobbies.

Host families generally appreciate being contacted by students prior to their arrival. It might also be a good idea to contact them providing your arrival information.

During Your Stay

The school's accommodation officer will be there for you during your stay to guide you or help you with any question regarding your accommodation.

End of Stay

Departure on Saturdays mornings. There is the possibility of adding additional nights during your registration.
